Cab Lovebug

I think the cabs in SF are getting nicer or they're just getting paid a lot more lately than we think they are...

Yesterday I had a cab fare that was $10. I gave the guy a $20 and he gave me back $15. Today I had a fare that was $6 and the guy only charged me $5. I mean... it's only a dollar but I'm saving pennies and this was pretty nice.

Granted, the first dude tried running my credit card for the fare. He tried twice and said that it was giving him a message to pre-auth which he didn't know how to do. So I opted to run by the ATM and get some cash. Maybe he felt bad? Turns out he was running my card for $50. Twice. Thank God I pay attention to my bank account. I'll just assume that he didn't know what he was doing... The second guy said that most people just hand him $20 bills for fares as low as $5. Jesus Cristo, he probably spends a lot of time with the big pockets in the Financial District?

I'm taking a cab to and from a meeting in the Presidio today so maybe I'll get a buy one, get one free card. :)

Wishful thinking...

suppenkuche

Suppenkuche is a seemingly authentic German restaurant in the Hayes Valley of San Francisco. Last night I had a great dinner with my beau and got the classic German Salat mit Karotten, Kraut, Kartoffeln, Rote Beete und Kopfsalat and some yummy mushroom soup that was intense. Very filling. He got the schnitzel, being a man and all, which he couldn't finish.

So, because the mushroom soup was out of this world delicious and satisfied me enough to the point where I couldn't finish my salad, I took it home. Lo and behold, I brought it to work this morning and wrapped it pretty shitty which led to it creating a gorgeous beet-colored lining on the bottom of my $200 Statistics book. The price I pay for being rushed in the mornings.

Factoid of the Day: KDKA is the oldest radio broadcasting station still going today. Coming out of Pittsburgh in 1922. Thank you Frank Conrad!

ss/maudegone

I've always thought Shannyn Sossamon was a beautiful soul from what I've seen from her in film. I'm a big fan of Warpaint and now I've stumbled across her Maudegone project and I'm an even happier little bee now that I've found it. The clips are small but all equally mesmerizing.

THE GIRL NEXT DOOR

A movie that's incredible tough to watch, let alone try and understand. It's very powerful. I couldn't even finish it to be completely honest here. The Girl Next Door is a film based on a true story of the torture, and eventually murder, of Sylvia Likens in Indiana during the mid-60's. Here's the trailer. Beware.

Stephen King himself referred to this as the suburbia-in-hell version of Stand By Me.
